What is a chrysalis?

Let's face it, the word chrysalis is not exactly common so why in the world did we make it the name of our website?

A chrysalis is a protecting covering or a sheltered state or stage of being or growth. Typically the word is used in reference to the protective covering in which a caterpillar develops into a butterfly. Inside the chrysalis a caterpillar endures rapid and drastic changes. Being tightly wrapped up in a chrysalis is not an easy thing- it's cramped, hot, and uncomfortable. Emerging from the chrysalis is even more difficult yet it is this struggle that is the greatest period of growth and strength development in the life of a butterfly.

We think that the word chrysalis accurately portrays the development of middle and high school students. This period of growth and development can be challenging, frustrating, and confusing, but those who persevere and endure these challenges will emerge stronger and better equipped to face the challenges of life.
